The University of The Gambia student union has elected Nyaninka Manjang as the new President of the student leadership body following an election of new executive members.

The University of the Gambia Students Union protects students’ rights and interests. It serves as a liaison between students and university management.

After being elected, President Manjang spoke to TAT and expressed his excitement and confidence in managing university matters effectively.

To regain our shared sense of purpose by creating an inclusive, vibrant, and representative student union, to ensure standards are set and periodically reviewed to maintain a conducive, accessible, and quality learning environment for students, especially the Differently-able students,” stated parts of the newly elected President’s primary goals.

He added, “Seek collaboration with various stakeholders to lobby essential resources to address students’ key priorities; strengthen collaboration and partnership with public and private sector employers to increase the scope of the graduate scheme.”

University students protested on the Kanifing campus earlier this week, demanding more school buses for students, especially those attending classes in Faraba.

According to the new President, ensuring harmony between student intake and resource availability is critical to mitigating the persistent transportation challenge.
