The Belgian gaffer guided the Scorpions to the quarter-finals of the 2021 AFCON earlier this year in Cameroon, and he has been shortlisted for the CAF coach of the year award.
“I am very honored as a coach to be part of that. But I am also disappointed that my team (Gambia ) and my individual players are not part of it. I can never achieve things without the players, staff, and team. I have said earlier that I think Musa Barrow deserved to be there, including Ablie Jallow, Bubacarr Gaye, and Sulayman Marreh. So many players who played outstanding in the AFCON and James Gomez are fantastic; at his age, making an AFCON debut doesn’t often happen,” He told TAT Sports.
“Naturally, as a coach, I am honored with that; it’s a mixed feeling; it’s a face of happiness been shortlisted.” Saintfiet added
The shortlisted coaches for the awards are below:
Coach of the Year (Men)
Carlos Queiroz (Egypt)
Pitso Mosimane (Al Ahly)
Tom Saintfiet (The Gambia)
Walid Regragui (Wydad Athletic Club)
Aliou Cisse (Senegal)
