The Vision Development Foundation (VDF), a prominent local NGO led by philanthropist Momodou Turo Darboe, has once again demonstrated its commitment to national unity and support for vulnerable communities by donating food items and cash worth a total of D242,500 ahead of Christmas celebrations.

On Tuesday, VDF presented 100 bags of 25kg rice, 50 crates of drinks, and a cheque for D50,000 to The Gambia Christian Council to aid Christmas festivities. Additionally, the foundation donated D30,000 to the Ekung Baba Hunting Society of Banjul.

Saihou Fofana, Public Relations Officer of VDF, emphasized that the organization, under the leadership of Turo Darboe, treats all individuals equally, regardless of political affiliation, religion, or tribe. “This gesture is to complement government efforts and ensure that we all work towards the upliftment of humanity, providing direct support to those in need,” Fofana said.

He urged the Christian Council to ensure the items reach the underprivileged within the community, enabling them to celebrate Christmas meaningfully with their families. “This is a noble project aimed at uniting the whole Gambia, irrespective of faith, tribe, or religion,” he added.

Reverend Moses Drammeh, representing The Gambia Christian Council, expressed profound gratitude for the donation. He noted that Christmas is a time to promote peace – an objective shared with VDF’s vision of “One Gambia, One People, One Nation.”

Rev. Drammeh assured the foundation that the gifts would be distributed to the intended beneficiaries: less-privileged Christians on the fringes of society. “I thank Turo Darboe for this laudable gesture and pray that God continues to sustain him and the foundation,” he said.

Dodou Fall, an executive member of the Ekung Baba Hunting Society, also thanked VDF for its continued support.

The initiative underscores VDF’s longstanding tradition of distributing millions of dalasi annually to communities nationwide, particularly during religious festivals, in fulfillment of its mission to support vulnerable populations and foster interfaith harmony.
