A prominent political youth leader, Kemo Bojang, has been named among the 100 most influential young African leaders of the Pan African Youths Leadership Foundation (PAYLEF) 2023.

This is the second time in a row the young politician has been shortlisted for the flagship awards following his involvement in 2022.

Reacting to the announcement, Kemo, also an adviser to the Mayor of Kanifing Municipality Council on youth matters, described his shortlisting as an “honor” and a recognition of the fantastic work young Gambians are doing.

“It is an honor, but it also emphasizes that there are a lot of other young Gambians doing fantastic work, and that is why we are now catching the attention of the International Community,” Kemo told TAT.

“I want to thank everyone, especially the councilors I work with, my party, and the Mayor of KMC. Because of my work at the council, I can be shortlisted for such,” he added.

The young legislator also believed that his nomination would inspire many young Gambians to do their quota towards national development.

Because he was shortlisted for his involvement in politics, Kemo challenged his fellow youth to participate in the country’s political dispensation.

“It is important that young people see themselves as part of the process and take an active part in politics. It is not just about holding public offices, but also holding your government accountable is a key part of political participation,” Bojang advises.

“Leadership will not be handed to us on silver plater until we take part in it and run for public offices and represent our parties; that is when we will see the true harnessing of our demographic dividends,” he stressed.

The Pan African Youths Leadership Foundation (PAYLEF) is an all-inclusive leading African youth platform representing and safeguarding the aspirations of millions of youth across our Continent. It envisages becoming the single largest youth body representing millions of African Youths across Africa by 2030.

The award ceremony aims to recognize and reward significant contributors to youth development and empowerment across the Continent. It also recognizes outstanding youths both at home and in the diaspora.

This year’s award presentation will take place at a summit at the prestigious British Council, Accra, Ghana, on April 14, 2023.
