Ahead of a very crucial match against Congo-Brazzaville in Marrakech today to decide Gambia’s qualification to the Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast, the head coach of the team, Tom Sainfeit, said he has seen a hungry squad that will do everything possible to make a back-to-back qualification to the continental biggest football showpiece.
The scorpions need only a point to make it to the group stages of AFCoN in the Ivory Coast next year.
Speaking to the media after the final training session, Tom explained that the players are hungry and ready to make it to AFCON next year.
“I saw a hungry squad today. We are a strong team. We have a lot of qualities. I respect Congo, but we are ready for the match,” in optimism, he said.
The Belgian added that he has a fanatic array of players who have their hearts in the right spot and are ready to play for the Gambia.
He explained that the players love the country and will do everything to make the fans proud.
He highlighted the players’ desire to return to AFCON next year after a historic maiden appearance in the competition in Cameroon last year.
“We will do everything to qualify. We tasted the sweet taste of AFCON. No one wanted it {qualification} more than us. As a team, we want to be there again. We are playing for each other and for the fans to get back to AFCON and make you {fans} all proud,” Tom emphasized.
Later today, the scorpions will face Congo-Brazzaville in a game that will decide the Gambia’s participation in the competition next year in the Ivory Coast.
Coach Tom Sainfeit and his boys needed only a point to secure a back-to-back appearance in the competition.
Despite the deathly earthquake that led to the death of over one thousand Moroccans and still counting, Tom is confident that the Gambia will triumph over Congo in Marrakech, Morocco, where the Gambia will be playing home away from home.
