Luneburg FC have once again asserted their dominance by clinching the Bakau Sports Committee League title following a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Brement FC.

Bakary Demba, commonly known as Flipo, scored the only goal of the game just 28 seconds into the second half of the final played on Saturday at the Bakau Community Football Park.

The triumph marks the ninth trophy in Luneburg FC’s cabinet since the club was established in 2009.

Luneburg FC booked their place in the final after defeating 6&1 FC on penalties. At the same time, Brement FC edged past their neighbours Kansala on penalties to reach their maiden Bakau Sports Committee final after decades.

Luneburg FC entered this year’s competition without conceding a single goal, a remarkable defensive performance that underlined their title-winning campaign.

Omar Joof, the head coach of champions Luneburg FC, praised his players for the victory and dedicated the trophy to the club’s supporters.

“I really thank my boys for this win, winning a trophy is something we meant for, I thank my fans for the support, I am really proud.”

Despite the defeat, Brement FC gained significant momentum heading into this year’s Nawettan season. The club reached the Bakau Sports Committee final for the first time in its history.

Bremen FC head coach Mambury Jammeh reflected on the missed opportunities in the match’s final moments.

“We have chances to score them, but we didn’t capitalise on it, we go back and come back stronger next year.”

The club has also produced outstanding talent this season, notably team captain  Lamin Jammeh, popularly known as Mono, who has been making waves in the Gambia First Division with Steve Biko FC as a defender.

Bremen FC went home with medals and a cheque of D80,000 as runners-up, while champions Luneburg FC pocketed D125,000.

Bakary Demba was named Man of the Match for his decisive performance in the final.

Meanwhile, the Bakau Sports Committee is currently holding its Annual General Meeting with community football stakeholders, maintaining its executive members for the upcoming sporting calendar.
