ST Brikama Boyo Nominated ‘Best African Artiste’ ‘Best Album’ at Galsen Hip Hop Awards in Senegal

Multiple Awards winning Gambian artiste, ST, alias Brikama Boyo has been nominated for the Galsen HIP HOP Awards under the categories of Best African Artist and Best Album Awards in Africa.

ST’s, DINDING Mansa album was nominated as best african album in 2020 in the annual Senegalese award scheme created to celebrate and encourage performers involved in creative artistic work.

It all started with “WHO IS ST” in 2007 when there’s was no audience for local music talk-less of making money in the Gambia’s music scene.

The artiste made a great breakthrough that galvanised new audiences and revived  Gambian music witb drops like “HAFTAN” in 2012, which became a popular local hit in the country. ST went on to release another banger in “DARA DU DOI” in the same year leading to his first studio debut album in 2013, ‘DISTINCTION ALBUM’.

In 2014 he dropped a major hit song which was the biggest hit of the year tittled “ALING DOMO”. The song quickly propelled him to the limelight.

“RESPECKO” will soon come out to dominate the streets where kids used it as anthem piece for the new times.

In 2016, ST premiered another song which announced his readiness to storm the nation with more music until he saves millions. “TAS DEKABI” is still a major hit.

The Brikama born artist made his second debut album “WAATOTIJEY” in 2019 gathering hit songs that went to establish his pedigree as the new King of the country’s popular Manding pop rap genre inducing the Gambia’s rich diversity.

ST continues to make great headway in the music scene with a 2020 “SALUTO” album that took the industry by storm. The platinum work will be followed by his third debut album “FUWAREYAA” which registered one of the biggest album launch concerts in the  Gambia.

In 2019 ST dropped his fourth debut album “GAMBIANA” which preached  love for  country. The album launch sold more than 45,000 tickets.

‘DINDING MANSA’ will follow in 2020 with a mega attendance at the Independence stadium, where ST attracted his biggest ever crowd in a sold out event that pushed the industry to new heights as local hits took new dominion over all other genres.

Sainey M.K. Marenah
Mr. Sainey M.K. Marenah is a prominent Gambian journalist and the founding editor of The Alkamba Times. He previously held the position of Head of Communications at the Constitutional Review Commission (CRC) and served as a Communications and PR Consultant for The Gambia Pilot Program under Gamworks. Additionally, Mr. Marenah was the social media strategist and editor at Gambia Radio and Television Services and served as the Banjul Correspondent for Voice of America Radio. With a focus on human rights and developmental journalism, Mr. Marenah has established a significant presence in the Gambian media landscape, particularly in new media environments. His career began in 2008 as a junior reporter at The Point Newspaper, where he advanced to become Chief Correspondent. He later joined The Standard Newspaper in Banjul as Editorial Assistant and Head of News. Mr. Marenah is known for covering some of the most critical stories during the former and current administrations, including high-profile treason cases involving former military chiefs from 2009 to 2012. After his arrest and imprisonment by the previous regime of President Yahya Jammeh in 2014, he relocated to Dakar, Senegal, where he continues to work as a freelance journalist for various local and international media organizations, including the BBC, Al Jazeera, VOA, and ZDF TV in Germany. He is also a co-founder of the Banjul-based Media Center for Research and Development, an institution dedicated to research and development initiatives. As a journalist and communication expert dedicated to supporting the Gambia's transitional process, Mr. Sainey M.K. Marenah plays a significant role in developing a media and communications platform aimed at enhancing civic participation and raising awareness of the requirements for transitional governance. His efforts contribute to the country's ongoing movement toward democratization. In addition to his work in Gambia, Mr. Marenah has traveled extensively across Europe, Africa, and the United States as a professional journalist and has participated in various local and international media training programs. He is currently based in the United States.
