APP-SOBEYAA has dismissed a 24 September statement calling for the resignation of party leader Hon. Essa Mbye Faal, saying it was unauthorised and does not represent the party.
In a statement issued on 25 September 2026, the party said only one of the signatories sits on its Executive Committee. Those who issued the statement, it added, have no mandate to speak for APP-SOBEYAA or present personal views as official policy.
The party rejected claims that its alliance with the National People’s Party (NPP) was decided by one person or without proper process. It said the National Executive, acting under a mandate from Congress, consulted all Regional Chairpersons. Leadership then voted overwhelmingly in favour of the alliance on the basis of the party’s reform agenda.
“This was therefore not Essa Mbye Faal’s personal decision,” the statement said. “It was a decision considered and supported through the Party’s recognised leadership structures.”
APP-SOBEYAA said members may disagree internally, but they cannot create a parallel position through the media and present it as official policy. Constitutional processes exist for legitimate challenge, it said; a press release cannot replace those processes or overturn decisions taken by authorised structures.
The party said it remains united around its reform agenda and will continue to act through recognised structures in the interests of the party and the Gambian people. The 24 September statement, it concluded, reflects only the views of those who signed it.
