The Spokesman of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) Almamy Fanding Taal has confirmed to the Alkamba Times that his party will file an election petition at the Supreme Court of The Gambia on Tuesday December 14 2021.
“Tomorrow the UDP will file its election petition” Almamy Fanding Taal told Alkamba Times on Monday afternoon.
On Monday, December 13 it was widely rumoured that the opposition party filed its elections but the party has confirmed that this is not true.
UDP intends to challenge the validity of the results of the 4th December Presidential Election, as announced by the Independent Electoral Commission that saw the incumbent, President Adama Barrow, winning by a landslide.
The Gambia electoral laws provide a space of 10 days for parties to challenge election results or file a petition at the supreme Court after the announcement of official polls.
