The Gambia Taekwondo Masters have filed a petition at the National Sports Council (NSC) and the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) over a congress organised by the Gambia Taekwondo Association alleging a violation of its constitution.
It would be recalled that on 30 November, 2021 a congress of the association was organized by the current executive headed by Bakebba Suso.
Speaking at a press conference held in Kanifing on Friday, Baba Sarr, the president of the Gambia Taekwondo Masters said their constitution was violated in organizing the congress.
According to the constitution of the association, a written letter must be delivered to all masters, at least 30 days prior to the congress.
Sarr said this never happened, and that only five clubs were notified, most of them not functional taekwondo clubs.
The masters are demanding the nullification of the congress, and are calling for holding a fresh election, at which all masters and clubs will be notified, and be given the right to vote.
Sarr further asserted that members of the current executive “are not competent, and virtually achieved nothing during their four years in office.”
They were elected in August 2017, and have failed to keep to their promises, he added.
