The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has awarded Tostan Gambia as the Taxpayer of the year 2021 in URR during the 4th edition of their annual Award Ceremony at Kairaba Beach Hotel on Saturday.
The ceremony attended by His Excellency President Adama Barrowa was meant to recognize and celebrate the most taxpaying-compliant companies and institutions operating in the country.
The 2021 Taxpayer of the year award winner in URR, Tostan Gambia is a Non-Governmental Organization that carries out its activities in the Upper and Central River Region where they support communities to develop and achieve their vision for the future and inspire large-scale movements leading to “Dignity for All”.
Reacting to the award, Edrisa Keita, the national coordinator of Tostan Gambia said the award is beyond regional recognition adding that, tax compliance is incumbent on every organization as adherence to the laws of the land.
“We are very much grateful to GRA for recognising us as the most taxpaying compliant institution in URR for the first time. This is a motivation to us and many other companies and institutions to do well in paying their taxes.”Edrisa added.
Jara Darboe, the Finance and Administration Manager of Tostan Gambia said Tostan has been committed to paying taxes fully and on time for the past 16 years, noting that her organization is known for compliance and has strict policies and protocols to legal issues and responsibilities of their staff.
Tostan is focused on building its social empowerment program that encourages communities to define and fulfill their visions on key issues such as education, health, governance, economic growth, and the environment.
The program also includes leadership development through Community Management Committees (CMC).
