The Independent electoral commission has rejected the appeal filed by United Democratic Party Busumbala Candidate, Momodou Sabally barely 24 hours after challenging the returning officer’s decision to block his nomination credentials.
In a decision taken by IEC Chairman, the commission said: “At its session held on 12th March 2022, the Commission upheld the decision of the Returning Officer that your nomination has not complied with the law as per the application of Section 90 (1)(e) of the 1997 Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia,”
Reacting to the IEC decision, the firebrand politician vowed to take the matter to court.
” And so the IEC has doubled down on their banditry and gross injustice meted at me. They have rejected my appeal and I have also rejected their rejection. So we will soon meet at the right platform for adjudication.”
