President Adama Barrow joined hundreds of worshippers on Friday to observe Eid al-Fitr prayers at the historic King Fahad Mosque in Banjul, celebrating the end of the holy month of Ramadan, locally known as Koriteh.

The president participated in the congregational prayers alongside Banjul residents, Vice President Mohammed BS Jallow, cabinet ministers, security service chiefs, and National Assembly members. He was warmly received at the mosque entrance by Vice President Jallow, security officials, and members of the Banjul Muslim Elders Committee.

Imam Ratib of Banjul, Alhaji Cherno Alieu Mass Kah, led the two rak’ahs of Eid prayer and delivered a sermon congratulating Muslims and all Gambians on the occasion. In his address, the imam prayed for the nation’s peace and progress, urging the faithful to uphold Islamic principles, promote tranquility, and maintain good neighborly relations.

Following the service, President Barrow was escorted from the mosque by officials and elders. Later in the day, he hosted a gathering at the State House with the Banjul Muslim Elders Committee, the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council, and other prominent religious scholars for traditional celebrations, discussions, and expressions of unity and goodwill.

During the engagements, President Barrow addressed the audience with forward-looking commitments tied to the upcoming December elections. He pledged that, if re-elected, his administration would ensure every household in The Gambia has access to electricity and clean water before the conclusion of his term in 2031. He further outlined plans to construct deep reservoirs—approximately 400 meters in depth—to bolster water security and support national development.

The event is part of the president’s engagement with the Muslim community during one of Islam’s major festivals, blending religious observance with messages of national progress and political vision.
