The management of Fajara Club has officially denied any encroachment activities on the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Golf Course in Fajara. In a statement released on Saturday, January 18th, 2025, the club emphasized that no part of the golf course has been encroached upon, countering recent claims regarding alleged works on the site.
This announcement comes amid rising concerns from environmentalists, conservationists, and rights activists who have expressed strong opposition to any potential encroachment by the government or its agencies on the historic golf course. These groups have repeatedly condemned any actions that might threaten the site’s integrity.
In their press release, Fajara Club management reiterated their commitment to preserving the legacy of former President Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara. They assured the public of their dedication to protecting and nurturing the values associated with the golf course. The club’s statement aims to dispel rumors and reaffirm its stance against unauthorized activities on the property.
“The Management of Fajara Club wishes to address recent concerns and reassure the general public that no portion of the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Golf Course has been encroached upon. We remain fully committed to preserving the integrity of this historic sporting venue’s integrity and the natural environment in which it resides,” Management Fajara Club disclosed.
It added: ‘Over the past few days, various rumors have circulated suggesting that parts of the golf course might have been taken over or subjected to unauthorized development. We categorically deny
these claims.”
The statement, signed by Oli Saja Taal, Manager of Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Golf Course, continues to assure the general public that the Golf Course’s integrity will remain. It notes that the golf course boundaries remain intact and are under the secure stewardship of Fajara Club.
She highlighted that the Golf Course management has strict protocols to monitor, maintain, and protect the site from illegal or unauthorized activities. As custodians of this prestigious facility, they regularly carry out inspections, landscaping, and maintenance programs to ensure that the course meets international golfing standards.
“These efforts also help preserve the rich legacy of Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, for whom the course is named, and complement Governent’s efforts towards The Gambia’s Nationally Determined Contributions. Fajara Club is committed to operating with transparency and welcomes all relevant stakeholders, including environmental experts and community members, to engage with us in open dialogue,” Fajara Club management further disclosed in the presser.
It added, “In the event of any proposed development, we would ensure thorough consultations and adhere to all legal and environmental requirements. We remain fully committed to preserving the integrity of this historic sporting venue and the natural environment in which it resides.”
The management also disclosed that it remains open to questions and clarifications from members of the public so that they can see for themselves that the golf course is fully intact.
