Kemo Bojang, the former National Secretary General of the United Democratic Party’s (UDP) Youth Wing, has announced his resignation from the party in a letter dated October 2, 2025.
Addressed to Alhagie S. Darboe, the Senior Administrative Secretary of the UDP, the letter marks the end of a long and distinguished career that began when Bojang was just 14 years old.
In his resignation letter, Bojang reflects on his journey, noting his rise through the ranks to become a key figure in the party’s youth leadership. “From the tender age of 14, I have been honoured to serve this great party. I began my journey from the earliest days at the ward level, rising through the ranks to eventually serve as the National Youth Secretary General,” he wrote. He credited the UDP, particularly its party leader, Ousainou Darboe, for shaping his political and personal life. “His mentorship, guidance, and unwavering trust have shaped me into the person I have become,” Bojang added.
The decision to step away was not taken lightly, as Bojang described the past few months as personally challenging. Despite the difficulties, he emphasized that his resignation is free of bitterness or haste. “After much consideration, I have come to the most difficult decision of my political journey: to tender my resignation from the United Democratic Party,” he stated. He expressed gratitude for the support and opportunities the party provided, noting that it served as a platform that inspired and empowered countless young Gambians, including himself.
Bojang, who joined the UDP as a young, energetic boy full of dreams, leaves as a young leader molded by his experiences within the party. He extended a warm farewell to his colleagues, whom he considers family. “To my colleagues and the family I’ve made through the party, be assured that you are still family and nothing will change that. I am truly honoured to have met and crossed paths with you all,” he wrote.
The UDP has yet to issue an official response to Bojang’s resignation.
