Gambia foreign-based players learn UEFA qualifiers fate

Gambian foreign-based players will once again be participating in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and UEFA Conference League as the continues to soar high in their career.

The qualifying phase of the competition will begin in July and close to 17 players are set to feature.

Champions League
FC Levadia will host RFS in the first round, while PFC Ludogorets, where Noah Sonko plays, will welcome Georgian side FC Dinamo. FC Levadia’s Bubacarr Tambedou, who has five goals in all competitions, and also boasts of nine appearances in the UEFA Europe competitions since making his debut in 2022 against Dinamo Tbilisi will be in the thick of affairs. RFS are now regular in the competition, having qualified for the Europa Conference League and Europa League, where Haruna Rashid Njie went on to make seven appearances in the Europa League in his first season.

The Red and Whites, SK Slavia Prague, will be playing in the Champions League. They have signed three players so far, including Gambian international Youssoupha Sanyang.

Baboucarr Gaye, who recently joined FC Shkendija, will take on Wales New Saints F.C. in the first round of the Champions League qualifiers.

New signing Alasana Yirang of ŠK Slovan Bratislava will enter the second round of the Champions League qualifiers.

Europa League
Eight-time Romanian champions CFR Cluj will travel to Hungary to meet Paksia in the First qualifying round of the Europa League. Sheriff Sinyan is settling well after having featured for club and country in the last five games. The Gambian-Norwegian-born made his name in the 2020/2021 Europa League when playing for Molde.

BSC Young Boys, who finished third in the Swiss Super League, will be playing the playoff of the Europa League.

UEFA Europa Conference League

Momodou Bojang (SJK), Assan Corr, Muhammed Badamoesi (Paide), and Wally Fofana (Dangavpils) will be making their European debuts in the Conference League qualifiers.

Abubacarr Barry’s, Austria Wein will enter in the second round of the qualifiers when they face Spaeri. Lamin Colley, who is yet to be capped for the scorpions, will face Aris Limassol.

Young midfielder Momodou Jatta and FK Sarajevo will host Romanian Universitatea Craiova in the second round of the Europa Conference League.

Mahmud Bajo, who is linked to a move to Besiktas, might be involved. His parent, Dac 1904will face winners between FC Urartu and Neman in the Europa Conference.

Mustapha Jah and his new club Floriana will be travelling to Haverfordwest County for the first round of the qualifiers.

The Stockholm-based Journalist is a media officer, football Scout, PR, Influencer and Digital creator. I started my journalism career as a football analyst in 2012 with Vibes FM and went on to work with CityLimit, West Coast, Hot FM, Freedom Radio, Eye Africa and Afri Radio as a content producer and presenter. I finished in the top 35 in the world with my article titled Back way: Gambian footballers in deadly Voyage to Europe.   With over 500 articles and interviews, analysis, profiling, features and news, I was shortlisted for the Gambia Press Union National Journalist Award 2022. I submitted the article which was co-written alongside Momodou Bah From Living Through Despair to Being An Agent Of Hope, The Inspiring Story Of John Bass.   I have served as an advisers to Football academies, clubs, and players and others. I have hosted dozens of shows and was invited as a guest on both radio, TV and the online press. I also covered the Gambia's maiden AFCON debut in 2021 in Cameroon.
