In a key move to modernize the nation’s identification system, Margins ID Systems Applications Ltd has signed a landmark contract with the Gambian government, represented by the Ministry of Interior, to produce secure national identity cards.
The agreement, finalized at a ceremony at the Ministry’s complex in Kotu, establishes a build-operate-transfer (BOT) partnership. Margins ID will design, build, and produce ICAO-compliant e-identity cards and implement a secure, scalable national identity management infrastructure. This aims to boost security, efficiency, and reliability in identity services while addressing long-standing delays in ID issuance following the end of the previous contract with Semlex.
The event drew Honorable Minister of Interior Abdoulie Sanyang, senior ministry officials, government partners, and top executives from Margins ID Systems Applications Ltd. Minister Sanyang highlighted the deal’s alignment with government priorities for modernizing public services and strengthening internal security. “This partnership reflects our commitment to delivering secure, reliable identification to citizens by leveraging trusted private sector expertise,” he said.
Moses Kwesi Baiden, Chairman, Executive Director, and CEO of Margins ID, expressed honor at the selection. “We are proud to collaborate on this nationally important project. Our focus is on delivering durable, high-security cards that enhance efficiency and service delivery for all Gambians.”
The contract marks a milestone in public-private collaboration, promising innovation, enhanced national security, and progress toward a more integrated digital identity framework amid ongoing efforts to resolve ID production backlogs.
