TAT Sports sat with Gambian international Gibril Sillah, who is attracting interest from some of the big clubs across the African continent.

Sillah took us through the rumours, the just ended season, the blooming of the Tanzania league, and his national caps in June.

“It’s a season where I had improvement. Last season, I had eight goals and eight assist. This season, I have 11 goals, 2 assits with fewer games in the league. It was a bit difficult because we were fighting for the league, we changed coach, and we were knocked out of the FA Cup. The numbers are good, I am happy. My target was to at least have double figures.”

There were rumors that a host of North African teams were on the heels of Sillah and he gave an insight into it.

“Transfers rumours linking me to
Tunisia and Algeria were concrete, but I haven’t heard of pyramids. I have had a meeting with coach Florent Ibenge, so Azam is pushing for an extension of my contract. I haven’t made any decision. Yanga and Simba are monitoring my situation as they are also interested in me. “

On the level of the Tanzania League, Sillah revealed it is at the top now.

“Tanzania is one of the best leagues in Africa. Very tough league . Simba is now going to the CAF Champions League and the likes. Apart from North Africa ( Egypt, Morrocco, Algeria), then followed by Tanzania. It has intensity, they don’t give you space and it’s very physical.”

He also picked his goal against Yanga as his best so far.

“My best goal and best match is against Yanga, it was the lone goal in the Derby.”

On the national team, Sillah stressed that it is a dream come true for him.

“Every players dream is to play for your national team. When I was in Senegal, I had the opportunity to be neautrialzed and play for them. They were following me. I was having a good season. It was painful by then not to be considered by the Gambia. But again, everything has its time.”

Sillah is Azam FC leading goalscorer with 11 goals, which ranked him seventh on the log in the Gambian foreign based players topscorers and Azam Top scorer.

“It was surprising when they called me up, the coach called me and I said to myself that they are following me now I have to deliver. It motivated me . I am happy , I am from Barra, and to put my city on the map brings me joy. It was a proud moment knowing that my family was rooting for me. The national team is a learning process , it requires patience and waiting for the right time.”

“I want continuity, and I will work for it. Anytime I get the chance and minutes will give my best. I can’t wait to score my first goal for the national team and qualify the Gambia to the Next Nations cup,” Sillah added.
