The Karantaba Police Post building was destroyed by a heavy rain storm on 17th September 2023, sources in the Central River Region village informed TAT.

However, it came at a time when the dilapidated structure was widely regarded as unfit for accommodating the police and other service personnel housed there.

Alhaji Malick Sallah, a brother to the Alkalo of Karanta, confirmed the collapse of the building and said the Immigration and other security forces also used it.

He added that the loss of the structure is a source of concern to people in the area, as it provided services to communities within the Sami district in the Central River Region.

“We are appealing to the government to consider building a modern police station for the forces doing great service for the area.

“We have communicated the situation to the governor and the regional police chiefs in Janjanbureh, and they visited the place,” Salla,” told TAT.

He said the police and other occupants have since moved and are currently housed in an unfinished building.

Another source said the collapse of the building did not come as a surprise, as all could see that it was in poor condition.

He observed that Sami needs a modern police station, as the region is close to the border, and the presence of the police in the area will enhance security.

The acting Police Commissioner for Janjanbureh Region, Juldeh Camara, was contacted but referred our reporter to the Police public relations officer.
