Gambian German-born football star Jasha Barry made a last-minute move from Bayern U17 to Frankfurt U17.
Jasha, born and raised in Frankfurt, joined their academy at 10. He later moved to Bayern three years ago. Frankfurt, known for talent development, is a good destination for Jasha, said his Father, Cherno Barry, who is a lifelong supporter of Eintracht Frankfurt football club.
” He’s coming home. Frankfurt is his boyhood club, the first place he started learning football. It will be a good place for his growth. Bayern offered him three years as his recent contract expires in a year, so another three years will see him at the club till 2026. Bayern is not famous for visiting young talents making it from the academy to the senior team. Thomas Muller was the last academy player who made a breakthrough to the senior ranks 18 years ago.”
Frankfurt U17 is 4th on the Bundesliga U17 league table, defeating Bayern U17 1-0 over the weekend. Jasha will be a great addition to Frankfurt U17. He’s a versatile footballer who can play midfield and forward positions.
He uses both feet comfortably, making him a unique player, said Coach Ivan, a development coach with the Frankfurt youth system.
What does this move mean for the Gambia, as Jasha is eligible to play for both The Gambia and Germany? The Gambia should capitalize and solicit the services of Jasha for the next U17 or even U20- said Babou Mbaye, an ardent Bayern Munich Fan and a keen follower of German football.
“Not every day you can see players like Jasha who are already exposed to the highest standard of football training. Bayern and Frankfurt are at the pantheon of world football. I hope our federation is monitoring their progress closely.”
Recently, another Gambian playing for the Bayern youth team, Mamin Sanyang, moved from the Bavarian club to Hannover.
