The Deputy Spokesperson of the Gambia Police Force, Cadet ASP Muhammed Y. Darboe, has confirmed to TAT that the alleged thief who raided the house of a US-based Gambian couple in Brufut Garden has been charged and is set to appear before the courts.
“The alleged thief has been charged with housebreaking and stealing and will appear before the Brikama Magistrate Court,” ASP Darboe said.
The alleged burglar is one Modou Lamin Ndow, who broke into the house of the married couple Sheriff Muhammed Lamin Jarjue and Abibatou Saidy on January 18, 2023, and took away valuables worth about one million dalasis.
A week later, the Police announced the arrest of the notorious thief in Jarreng village of the Central River Region, thanks to a digital tracker connected to an airpod among the stolen properties, which helped the victim to locate him.
After three other suspects were arrested, the suspect admitted to breaking and stealing the valuables alone. However, the Police earlier said two of the three are his gang members and cannot be excluded.
Despite recovering some of the stolen properties, many of the stolen valuables remain unseen.
The stolen properties include a gold chain set worth $3500, 2 gold chain sets; for $500, silver crystal; for $33, an AirPod; for $250, an Apple Watch for $438, 1 MK watch; for $150; 2 MK watches; $200, male diamond watch; $445, Gucci purse; $1079, Aido purse; $60, 2 male designer perfumes; $250, and cash of $15,800 were all stolen.
