The 100 rising stars have four attributes that each possesses, outstanding athleticism, technical ability, astute tactical awareness, discipline, exceptionally gifted determination, team player, leadership, and most importantly, the hunger to succeed. These attributes make it standout for scouts, European clubs who come to scout physically often go with one or two players on the spot.

The debut of Ebrima Barry has coincided with a noticeable rise in the number of young players breaking through across both the first and second divisions of Gambian football. Which is positive, as clubs are managing these players’ exposure and giving them the platform to quick adaptation to the league. No doubt if the junior national team coaches get right, they have abundance of talents to choose from countrywide.

In recent years, academies have taken increasing pride in seeing their graduates earn places in senior teams or secure loan moves to other clubs. These opportunities are seen as an important step in the development pathway for young players transitioning into professional football.

Several of the country’s top clubs have also adopted a strategy of loaning promising players to teams in the second division or within the league system while maintaining the core of their youth setups. This approach allows young talents to gain valuable competitive experience while still being closely monitored by their parent clubs.

Clubs such as Real de Banjul, Fortune FC, Hawks, Greater Tommorow and TMT FC are widely recognized for their strong youth development structures and clear pathways from academy football to the first team.

While the objective remains the same developing talent for the senior level each club and academy operates with its own method of operation, shaping how players are trained, promoted, and integrated into competitive football.

During the winter transfer window, about 20 Gambian players traveled abroad for trials, highlighting the growing demand for talent from the country.

Among them was Abdou Wadou Sarr, who successfully secured a contract with Danish club Odense Boldklub. The club already has Gambian youngster Yahya Bojang in its ranks and is also notable for previously hosting Yankuba Minteh during the early stages of his European journey before he rose to prominence.

The steady movement of players abroad reflects the abundance of talent in The Gambia, increasingly positioning the country as a key talent hub in West Africa. Much of this exposure is credited to the work of agent Modou Lamin Beyai.

Over the years, Beyai has played a significant role in connecting Gambian football with international scouts and clubs. His efforts and that of others have helped attract recruitment networks from countries such as Ukraine, Sweden, England, Czech Republic, Estonia and Portugal, many of whom now frequently visit The Gambia in search of emerging players.

As a result, the small West African nation continues to strengthen its reputation as one of the continent’s most promising scouting destinations for young football talent.
