Retired Army General Lamin Bojang, a distinguished military officer and leader of the Alliance for National Reorientation and Development (ANRD), passed away this evening, Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul.
Sources close to the family report that General Bojang had been briefly ill before his admission to the hospital, where he succumbed to his condition.
General Bojang, a native of Brufut, leaves behind a legacy spanning over two decades of service in the Gambian Armed Forces. Known for his dedication and discipline, he rose through the ranks to become a seasoned officer, earning respect both within the military and among the Gambian populace. Following his retirement, he served as military attaché and chancellor at the Gambian Embassy in Bissau, where he distinguished The Gambia in diplomatic circles.
As the leader of the ANRD, a political party he founded to address what he described as a “leadership vacuum” in the country, Bojang championed national reorientation and development. His vision for a disciplined and inclusive political landscape resonated with many, particularly women and youth, whom he sought to empower through his party’s platform.
The news of his passing has sent shockwaves through Brufut and beyond, with tributes pouring in for a man regarded as a patriot and a steadfast public servant. His death marks a significant loss to both the military community and the political sphere in The Gambia.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced, but General Bojang is expected to be buried in his hometown of Brufut, where he was born and raised.
