Demonstrating its commitment to supporting those in need, The Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation delivered Ramadan gifts to countless bedridden pensioners on Tuesday, 2nd April 2024, ensuring they felt included in the blessed month of Ramada.
The generous donation included numerous essential food items, including 50 bags of potatoes, 50 bags of onions, 50 bags of sugar, and 50 gallons of cooking oil. These items will undoubtedly significantly impact the lives of many individuals.
Saloum Malang, the Corporation’s Managing Director, revealed that donated items are tokens of appreciation and goodwill to families.
He added that the gesture would help the bedridden pensioners support their families during Ramadan when household spending surges.
“It is our firm belief that during this sacred time, no member of our community should go without the necessities of life. Therefore, we have meticulously curated a selection of essential items, including bags of rice, sugar, onions, potatoes, cooking oil, and tins of tomatoes, to alleviate the burden on our bedridden pensioners for Ramadan and Koriteh,” Saloum Malang, Managing Director of SSHFC, said in a statement.
He added: “The gesture is not merely an act of charity, but a testimony of our unwavering commitment to the welfare and well-being of our pensioners, who have dedicated their lives to the service of our nation; it is a small token of appreciation for their invaluable contributions and a reminder that they are cherished members of our society.”
The SSHFC Managing Director highlighted similar other interventions the corporation embarked upon during the recent past as part of its corporate social responsibility, noting that these interventions include sponsoring medical facilities at Ndemban Clinic with essential equipment, supporting the Gambia Under 15 Football team in Norway, supporting Gambia National Team in recent participation at the 2023 Afcon tournament as well the renovation of the Independent Stadium in Bakau.
Alfonse Mendy, Spokesperson for Pensioners, hailed the SSHFC’s gesture of extending support to pensioners, especially those who are bedridden and cannot carry out their everyday activities. He hinted that the support is not the first of its kind and will go a long way in putting a smile on the beneficiaries’ faces.
