A 17-year-old teenager, Ebrima Camara, from Kiang Karantaba in the Kiang West district, has died by suicide late Thursday inside his adopted father’s shop, residents and community leaders confirmed to Alkamba Times.
The young man lived in the shop with his stepmother while looking after the family business in Karantaba. His adopted father operates a second shop a few kilometers away in a nearby community.
Police in the Lower River Region have recovered the body and pledged to open a full investigation. Authorities said the circumstances surrounding the death remain under review. Sources close to the family indicated the matter appears linked to private family issues, though no further details have been released.
Community members expressed profound shock at the loss of such a young life. “This is incredible, a very sad news. The boy is too young and innocent to commit suicide,” one resident told Alkamba Times on condition of anonymity.
Local leaders described the incident as a heavy blow to the close-knit community of Kiang Karantaba. Condolences have begun pouring in from neighbors and relatives as the family grapples with the sudden tragedy.
Investigators continue to gather information. Further updates are expected as official findings emerge.
