Berending United’s goalkeeper Babucarr Jassey’s heroic show in the post-match penalty shootouts earned Berending a 6-5 dramatic penalty shootout win in the Pirang Sports Committee League final over Janneh FC following a 1-1 scintillating draw in regulation time.
Ebrima Jobe gives Janneh FC the brightest start they could dream of when he canons in a powerful low drive that beat the helpless Berending goalkeeper, Babucarr Jassesy, just four minutes into the contest.
After filling mountainous pressure on the knockout champions, Janneh FC, Berending United leveled parity in the 25 minutes to send their fans to an ecstatic celebration.
Berending United’s Lamin Jabang received the ball around the edge of the box before he magically danced passed a crowded penalty area and squared the ball for Ebrima Toursy to slot the ball in for an equalizer.
Berending United triumphed 6-5 on penalties thanks to Babucarr Jassey, who safe two shots.
Musa Jassey, the head coach of Berending United, says hard work pays, and he is happy that his boys won against their arch-rivals.
“This is a derby match, and I am glad we won against Janneh FC. We have been training since November. My boys were ready for this derby, they trained hard for this final, and Allah has blessed us for our efforts.” Musa Jassey said.
Berending United went home with medals, a giant trophy, and a cash price of twelve thousand dalasis as winners, while Janneh FC pocketed ten thousand dalasis and medals as a consolation prize.
