Mustapha Jarju, a dynamic youth leader, public relations officer for the Gambia Environmental Alliance, and head of communications for the African Federation West Africa Block, has announced his candidacy for a seat in the National Youth Parliament to represent Foni Jarrol District.
With a bold vision to empower young people and address pressing local challenges, Jarju’s campaign is gaining traction as a beacon of hope for the region’s youth. Jarju, a seasoned advocate with over seven years of experience in media and youth organizations, is driven by a deep understanding of the issues plaguing Foni Jarrol, including high unemployment, limited opportunities, and environmental degradation.
His campaign focuses on empowering youth, promoting economic growth, and advocating for sustainable practices to ensure a brighter future for his community. “My goal is to give the youth of Foni Jarrol a voice,” Jarju said during a recent campaign event. “We face challenges like unemployment and environmental destruction, but with the right opportunities and representation, our youth can thrive.”
His plan includes providing skills training and supporting youth-led businesses to combat unemployment and stimulate economic growth.
Jarju also aims to continue his fight against deforestation, advocating for sustainable environmental practices that protect Foni Jarrol’s natural resources.
A key pillar of Jarju’s campaign is ensuring youth participation in decision-making. He pledges to encourage young people to engage in governance, amplifying their voices in the National Youth Parliament. To maintain transparency, Jarju promises to hold regular village meetings across Foni Jarrol to gather feedback and address concerns. He also plans to leverage social media platforms to share updates and invite ideas, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all.
Jarju’s leadership credentials are well-established. As a prominent figure in the Gambia Environmental Alliance, he has championed initiatives to combat environmental challenges. His role in the African Federation West Africa Block has further honed his skills in regional advocacy and communication. His experience equips him to navigate the complexities of representing Foni Jarrol at a national level.
The National Youth Parliament, aligned with The Gambia’s National Youth Policy (2019–2028), provides a platform for young leaders like Jarju to influence national development. His candidacy comes at a time when youth empowerment is crucial, with challenges such as unemployment and limited access to education affecting many Gambian communities.
Residents of Foni Jarrol have expressed enthusiasm for Jarju’s candidacy. “Mustapha listens to us,” said Awa Sanyang, a local student. “He’s someone who understands our struggles and wants to make a difference.”
Community leaders have also praised his commitment to inclusive development and environmental sustainability. As the election approaches, Jarju remains focused on his vision: a Foni Jarrol where young people have access to opportunities, actively participate in governance, and live in a sustainable environment.
With his passion, experience, and dedication to accountability, Jarju is poised to be a transformative voice for his district in the National Youth Parliament, inspiring hope for a brighter, youth-driven future.
