Fye Network and Q Group on Monday announced a new children’s book about Gambian entrepreneur Muhammed Jah and a nationwide campaign to place 10,000 copies in the hands of young readers.
The Story of Muhammed Jah: From Little Ideas, Big Things Grow follows Jah’s early ideas, determination and rise as a business leader. The illustrated story is built around a simple lesson: big things can grow from small ideas when children believe in themselves and chase their dreams.
Organizers say the book is meant to give Gambian children a homegrown success story written for them. It emphasizes bold dreaming, perseverance, creativity, innovation, leadership and a sense of what is possible.
The launch will also start the Q Read Initiative, which aims to distribute 10,000 copies across all seven regions of The Gambia. FyeN and Q Group are asking businesses, foundations, schools, community leaders and individuals to sponsor books for schools, libraries and communities.
The partners argue that children’s books can do more than entertain. They can spark ambition, build confidence, celebrate African achievement and help children imagine their own futures.
Fye Network is a women-led Gambian creative media company founded by sisters YaAdam and Anna Fye. It produces books, animation and educational media and develops original stories through FyeN Studios. Its flagship series is the animated program Bakary on Safari.
