In a significant move to bolster his administration, President Adama Barrow of The Gambia has enacted a cabinet reshuffle and made key appointments, effective immediately, as announced by the State House. The changes, authorized under sections 71(1) and 71(3) of the Constitution, reflect Barrow’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and economic management.

Honourable Baboucar Ousmaila Joof, previously the Minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment, has been reassigned to lead the Ministry of Defence. Joof’s transfer is seen as a strategic move to leverage his experience in a critical portfolio amid evolving regional security dynamics.

Taking over Joof’s former role is Mr. Modou Ceesay, the outgoing Auditor General, who has been appointed as the new Minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration, and Employment. Ceesay’s background in financial oversight is expected to drive reforms in trade and industry, key sectors for The Gambia’s economic growth.

In a related development, President Barrow appointed Mr. Cherno Amadou Sowe, the Director of Internal Audit, as the new Auditor General. Sowe’s elevation underscores Barrow’s focus on maintaining robust financial accountability within the government. Meanwhile, Mr. Masireh K. Drammeh has been named Acting Director of Internal Audit, tasked with ensuring continuity in the department’s operations.

The reshuffle and appointments have sparked discussions among political analysts, with many viewing them as part of Barrow’s broader strategy to align his administration with national development goals. The State House has not disclosed further details on the rationale behind the changes, but the moves are expected to enhance efficiency across the affected sectors.
