Gambian players enjoyed another productive weekend across Europe, with goals coming from almost everywhere except Portugal, Denmark and Saudi Arabia.
Ebou Adams, Abdoulie Sanyang and Salieu Drammeh produced three of the weekend’s standout goals, while Yusupha Njie, Alieu Cham, Ebrima Colley and the Badamoesi brothers also found the back of the net.
Saikouba Jarju, meanwhile, marked his first start in the Turkish Super Lig with two assists.
England
Ebou Adams came off the bench in the second half to help Portsmouth secure their first win of the season. Lincoln gifted possession to Adams, who had plenty of space to advance before unleashing a 25-yard rocket into the net to wrap up all three points for Pompey.
Italy
Defending champions Fiorentina left it late to salvage a point against Sassuolo in the Primavera Premier League. Sulayman Jallow came off the bench and scored a late equaliser as the match ended 1-1.
Portugal
Sporting secured a 2-1 victory over Alverca, with Gambian youngster Yaya Bojang playing the entire match. The champions controlled much of the game and scored through Suraez and Araujo before Figueiredo pulled one back for Alverca.
Belgium
Salieu Drammeh came off the bench to score a brace as Standard Liège secured their first three points of the season.
Drammeh replaced Ayenes in the 62nd minute and needed only five minutes to make his mark. Played through by Nguene, he calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Five minutes later, he produced an even better finish, unleashing an absolute belter with his left foot.
Drammeh’s 28-minute cameo was enough to earn him the Man of the Match award in his first home appearance.
Meanwhile, Charleroi are flying high in the Belgian Pro League after winning all three of their opening matches. Adama Bojang, on loan from Stade de Reims, came off the bench to make his second appearance of the season.
Czech Republic
Both Ebrima Singhateh and Gibril Sosseh came on in the second half for their respective clubs. Singhateh won a penalty as his side cruised to a 4-0 victory over Artis.
Sosseh was introduced late but could not prevent his side from losing 2-1 to Mladá Boleslav on Saturday.
Romania
U Cluj fell behind after Danny Armstrong scored in the 34th and 49th minutes.
The hosts attempted a comeback, with Muhammadu Drammeh pulling one back in the 77th minute. A lucky deflection from a header put the ball into the path of the Gambian midfielder, who made no mistake as he fired into the top corner with his left foot.
Serbia
Slovakia
With the Champions League return leg in sight, both Suleiman Camara and Alasana Yiranjang started on the bench. Camara was introduced in the second half as Slovan secured a 2-1 away victory against Košice.
Turkey
Samsunspor fans who caught a glimpse of Saikouba Jarju against Göztepe already had high expectations of the youngster.
Against Rizespor at home, Jarju finally got his first start and played 85 minutes. He repaid the faith with two assists, setting up Mendez and later Kaya as Samsunspor secured the victory.
Rizespor were unlucky, hitting the post and woodwork, while several of their shots on target were saved by the goalkeeper. Jarju finished the game with a rating of 7.1.
Fenerbahçe survived a four-goal thriller against Ebrima Colley’s Konyaspor, winning 4-2 after a dramatic encounter.
Fenerbahçe’s lead lasted only four minutes before Colley equalised in the 10th minute. The Gambian was played through one-on-one with the goalkeeper and made no mistake. Colley played 60 minutes, scoring his first Super Lig goal of the season.
All three MMK Academy products were involved as Istanbulspor suffered a 3-2 away defeat to Vanspor.
Alieu Cham was handed a start and went on to score in the 36th minute to double Istanbulspor’s lead.
New signing Essap Njie was introduced in the 57th minute, while Elvin Mendy came on in the 82nd minute. Cham created the first chance of the game with a low cross that Nizman failed to convert.
In the 36th minute, Cham positioned himself on the left and connected well with Araujo’s cross to tap in Istanbulspor’s second goal of the evening. He later won a penalty, but Araujo failed to convert from the spot.
Croatia
Abdoulie Sanyang came on in the 63rd minute as Hajduk Split thrashed Osijek 4-0.
The Gambian winger produced one of the weekend’s standout goals, driving forward before cutting onto his left foot and firing a stunning effort into the top corner.
Estonia
Abdourahman Badamoesi scored his fourth league goal of the season as Paide defeated Nõmme United 4-1 at home.
Four Gambians started the match for Paide: goalkeeper Ebrima Jarju, Pa Modou Sohna, Momodou Jobarteh and Badamoesi.
Badamoesi’s goal came from high pressing. Sohna won possession, looked up and found the lanky striker, who calmly fired a low shot into the bottom corner.
Latvia
The top-of-the-table clash between RFS and Riga ended 3-3, with Mohammed Badamoesi scoring the opening goal from the penalty spot. He later provided an assist in the 53rd minute. Modou Saidy also started for the hosts.
Denmark
AC Horsens secured a home victory over Lyngby to move into sixth position with seven points after five matchdays. Alagie Saine featured in the back four, operating at right-back.
Odense were denied three points after Carstensen equalised for AGF in the 75th minute. Arp had scored a brace, but OB ultimately had to settle for a draw.
Sweden
Momodou Bojang scored a second-half hat-trick as Lund BK defeated AFC Malmö 5-2.
The hat-trick took Bojang’s league tally to seven goals as Lund moved into third position.
Saudi Arabia
Al Diriyah registered their first win of the season courtesy of an early goal from Al Malki against Al Hazem. The visitors created the better chances while remaining cautious defensively. The build-up to the goal started with Omar Colley, who found Oscar, who then delivered the cross for Malki to head home.
Al-Khaleej played out a goalless draw against Al Shabab. The visitors created more chances, while the hosts managed only three shots on target.
Musa Barrow came close to breaking the deadlock, but his effort was parried for a corner. Al-Khaleej’s other efforts on target were comfortably dealt with by the goalkeeper.
Qatar
Al Markhiya and Yusupha Njie secured all three points against Al Khor in the Qatar Second Division. Njie was on target from the penalty spot in the 50th minute.
Kenya
Abdoulie Joof was handed a start as Tusker defeated Gor Mahia 3-1 in Sunday’s Super Cup. The victory secured Tusker’s fourth Super Cup title in the club’s history.
