In a rather dramatic twist of events, former president Yahaya Jammeh has finally broken his long silence over the alliance between his party, APRC and current President Adama Barrow’s NPP, saying his party did not enter into any alliance with NPP.

Speaking on telephone broadcast from his base in Equatorial Guinea to hundreds of his party supporters who gathered at his Kanilai home, Jammeh said he didn’t consent to the Fabakary Tombong Jatta led executive’s decision to form alliance with NPP.

Jammeh immediately dissolved the current executive and named 11 people to replace them while announcing that his party henceforth will form an alliance with his former Attorney General and Justice Minister Sheikh Tijan Hydara, GANU.

“APRC will not go into alliance with any party that has destroyed The Gambia within this past four years and APRC will work with GANU and no other party,” Mr Jammeh said in a telephone conversation broadcast and listened to by thousands of Gambians.
He named Abdou Jarju, Bakaray Saibo Sanneh, Jerrending Sanyang and Pa Modou Mbowe among the new executive members of APRC.

The reported MOU announcement by both NPP and APRC was met with total rejection across many sections of Gambian society with opposition political party leaders, civil society groups and victims unanimously condemning the move in unequivocal terms.
