President Adama Barrow on Tuesday inspected two major road projects, visiting the BB Bridge in Kotu and the Sukuta-Jabang Overpass to assess construction progress and remaining works.
The visits gave the President a firsthand view of two infrastructure schemes that officials say are central to improving traffic flow and connectivity along key corridors.
At the BB Bridge, work is advancing but remains in the early stages. The hydraulic structure is now 55 percent complete, while overall project implementation stands at 35.35 percent. The contractor has finished two pier walls and one abutment wall, including its wing walls. Sheet piling is continuing on the remaining pier and abutment walls to allow excavation, pile-head trimming, and construction of pile caps. After that, crews will pour concrete for the remaining structural walls and build the beams, deck slab, and transition slabs.
By contrast, the Sukuta-Jabang Overpass is nearing completion. The structure, part of Phase 3 of the Bertil Harding Highway Project, is 90 percent complete, with the main structural works already finished. Contractor Arezki S.A. is expected to begin waterproofing the bridge deck this week, a process scheduled to take about seven days. Asphalt surfacing of the deck slab and roundabout will follow.
Handrail installation is also underway and is expected to be completed by Friday, 25 September. Streetlighting, road signage and painting are scheduled for completion by the end of November 2026. Overall progress on Phase 3 of the Bertil Harding Highway Project currently stands at 69 percent.
President Barrow said he was satisfied with the pace of work and described both projects as being on target. He commended Arezki S.A. and Longjian Road and Bridge Company for their performance on the respective sites.
Officials say the completed works are expected to ease congestion and strengthen transport links in the Greater Banjul area once the remaining construction stages are finished.
