Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, Presidential Aspirant for the Citizens Alliance (CA) party has described the Chief Electoral Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) as a dictator, alleging that the CEO of IEC is one man responsible for all decisions on who should contest or not the Presidential elections.
Dr Ceesay was addressing a Citizens Alliance press conference hosted at the party’s secretariat on Friday, where he announced CA will kick-off its campaign on Sunday.
“One man runs the institution as we speak and that is Sambujang Njie, he decides what happens, he decides who will run and who will not run. An institution like IEC cannot be run by one man, that is dictatorship,” Dr. Ismaila stated.
He added: “The Chairman of the IEC is weak, and not in charge of that institution. It is Sambujang Njie who controls. We are privy to credible information, the stakeholders have asked them to allow and follow due process and in fact will give extra support to make sure due process is followed but Sambujang is saying no and that he must ensure that citizens alliance is not on the ballot box.”
He described the actions of the chief electoral officer as pitiful and vindictive, arguing that Sambujang Njie needs to be restrained or he will singlehandedly jeopardise the peace and stability of the country.
“In fact, I will say this with confidence and am going to repeat it because I want everybody to listen to this. We have credible information and evidence that Sambujang Njie has allying with a particular political party in this country,” the CA Party Leader alledged.
“We are going to reveal that evidence when the time comes. We are doing this for our country because we don’t want our country to burn, that is why we are doing this.”
Dr. Ceesay further stressed that the chief electoral officer of the IEC is allying with a certain political party he is conspiring with to ensure CA does not contest in the Presidential election.
He told the press that Citizens Alliance will be starting its Presidential campaign on Sunday, 28th November, 2021.
