Reliable sources have informed The Alkamba Times (TAT) that a senior officer, at one of the country’s public institutions has been asked to explain his posts on social media during the election campaign period.

TAT telephoned the person in Banjul, who confirmed that his management had indeed written to him for an explanation as, according to the official letter he received, his actions were in contravention of the General Orders.

“You have been making publications and utterances on social media in support of a political party, which is contrary to the conduct of public servants as per the General Order (GO) 03104.

“It is against this backdrop that we write, to request for an explanation as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against you for your conduct,” stated the official letter seen by TAT.

Asked what he feels about this development, he said that he is “targeted and it’s a travesty of justice,” since well-known NPP supporters in the public service have been seen campaigning openly and is not aware that they face any sanctions.

He lamented what he called “unfair treatment” of government officials perceived to be opposition supporters, and decried this as “unfair and grossly undemocratic in nature”.

The Alkamba Times will follow up on this particular case to see its conclusion, and inform the public accordingly.
