The president of the Gambia Football Federation Lamin Kaba Bajo says the Gambia’s performance in their first Nations cup game sends a clear message that the “future of football in the country is very bright”.

“We came here and earned a victory in our maiden appearance. The whole continent will take us seriously now as we were the underdogs and the lowest ranked team coming into this competition”. This victory is dedicated to the whole country, especially those who were here before us and did everything possible to reached this level but couldn’t. It’s a happy moment for the entire country, he added.

Abdoulie Jallow’s goal in the 10th minute of the first half was enough for the scorpions to collect their first ever win in the continent’s highest football competition.

The scorpions next game is against Mali on Sunday the 16th of January 2022.
