Scores of people in the Gambia are mourning the death of Journalists Pa Modou Faal and Musa Ndow and staff of the Ministry of Health who was involved in a fatal car accident in Jarra Jiffin.
A government delegation, journalists, and other members of society visited the family of one of the deceased ( Pa Modou Faal) who was laid to rest in Lamin on Monday afternoon January 17, 2022.
Speaking at the funeral, the Gambia’s Minister of Information and Communication, Ebrima Sillah described Pa Modou as among the most respected Gambian journalists. He said Pa Modou demise and his colleagues are a huge loss to not only the community, but to the country at large.
“The entire country is mourning. It’s difficult to lost three young people all in the same day,” said Minister Sillah.
He further added: “President Barrow is equally saddened by the death of the three young people. When we met him today morning and informed him about the sudden demise, he (Barrow) stated that he knew the deceased ( Pa Modou Faal) and he knows him as a well respected individual.”
Also, speaking was the former Information Minister Demba Ali Jawo who told the gathering that Pa Modou has contributed immensely toward nation building. “He have never do something without consulting me,” said DA Jawo.
Momodou Jawo, Executive Member of the Gambia Press Union said: “The deceased Pa Modou Faal was a longest serving executive member of the union. He have contributed greatly towards the development of the union and press freedom in the Gambia.”
Several speakers all described the deceased as a “God fearing individual”.
Pa Modou Faal was also a member of the mosque committee around his community.
Reacting to the sad news, Sainey MK Marenah, Editor of Alkamba Times, who worked under late Journalist Pa Modou describe his loss as ‘ manumental loss to media fraternity’.
‘ Pa was a great human being who was an easy going person. I am devasted and shocked by his tragic death,” Marenah said of his long time friend and senior colleague.
