Ebrima Darboe who made four appearances in the competition became the first-ever Gambian to win a European trophy. The Gambian international has just made five appearances this season.
Tom Saintfiet who gave Darboe his national cap debut praised the Bakoteh born for his trophy-winning season.
“It’s fantastic for him to be the first Gambian to win a European Conference League. It’s amazing, it’s fantastic for Gambian football. If we have more and more players playing at a high level and winning things, look at Assan Ceesay it will all help in the development of our football. I am very proud of him as a coach. He is a guy with a bright future.” Sainfiet stated
Darboe will join the scorpions in Dubai as the Gambia prepares to return to the continental showpiece qualifiers.
Darboe’s Italian-based agent, Mirian said the country should support the young generation.
“The whole Gambia must support Ebrima and all players here that fight every day to honor the whole country. The trophy is a big achievement for him. He is happy, excited, and satisfied.” Miriam stressed.
