Armed Attack in Fass Njaga Choi – PIU Personnel  Severely Assaulted and a Rifle taken from him

Heavily armed men reportedly stormed the North bank settlement of Fass Njaga Choi Sunday morning between 3:30 am to 4 am. They severely beat up police intervention unit personnel at a checkpoint before seizing his rifle and disappearing into Senegal.

Eyewitnesses told TAT that the cross-border gang numbered more than 20 and split into two groups during the Attack. The first group engaged PIU officers at a nearby checkpoint while the other group broke into shops in the village, getting away with thousands of dalasi.

Our sources also revealed that a PIU officer (withheld) was shot in the right hand, and an AK 47 rifle with 30 live rounds of ammunition was taken away from him.

Residents of the area are apprehensive about their safety; some called on authorities to bring in soldiers to maintain security.

Meanwhile, the Police spokesperson, ASP Binta Njie, confirmed the incident and promised to provide more details as soon as more information is available.
