Coalition Mediation Committee Chairman Prof. Yerro Mballow has publicly distanced himself from the process that named Talib Ahmed Bensouda as Coalition 2026 flagbearer, urging an independent investigation into claims of inducements.

In a strongly worded statement, Mballow said he and former Vice President Fatoumatta Jallow Tambajang, a senior mediator, had recommended suspending the vote for two weeks after serious allegations surfaced. The pair then walked out of the proceedings.

Despite their exit, CMC spokesperson Lawyer Assan Martin and remaining stakeholders pressed ahead with consultations. The other contenders subsequently conceded, paving the way for Bensouda’s announcement as flagbearer.

Mballow is now demanding an independent probe, the preservation of all evidence and an emergency stakeholder meeting. “We cannot build a new Gambia on compromised foundations,” he declared.
