The Drug Law Enforcement Agency of the Gambia (DLEAG) Wednesday destroyed illicit drugs worth D109 million, which were seized in the country from January through December 2021. The drugs incinerated include cannabis, hashes, heroin, and cocaine.

The street value of this drugs is more than D109.5 million equivalent to over $2.1 million, DLEAG Director General Bakary Gassama announced.

The event was very organized to coincide with world anti drugs day, December 15. This year’s theme is: “share facts on drugs, save lives.”

The public drugs burning exercise took place in an open area near the Old Cape Road at Bakau Cape Point.

It was attended by the minister of the Interior, Yankuba Sonko, and several senior government officials; and, witnessed, among others, by representatives of NGOs and the media.
