Falcons Football Club’s fairy tale run on form continues with a dramatic 3-2 win over Real De Banjul in Basori to further cement their lead at the top of the table with a five-point gap.
The match was dubbed the top-of-table clash and lived up to expectations. A win for Real De Banjul could have seen them topple Falcons at the top, but instead, Falcons best them in an enthralling 3-2 win to create a 6 points lead between them.
Real De Banjul’s skipper, Essa Jallow, was sent off for a tactical foul when he brought down Solomon Kanform in a promising area in the 12 minutes. However, the Blue Armies Falcons capitalized on their numerical advantage; Bakary Touray headed the ball into the net from a crowded penalty area in the 15 minutes.
Real De Banjul was still catching up for a long as the former Gambia U-20 striker, Momodou Bojang, struck twice in two minutes to give Real De Banjul the lead despite the numerical disadvantage. Bojang converted a penalty and tapped home a rebound in the 21st and 23rd minutes, respectively.
Falcon’s tall, lanky striker Ousman Ceesay brings parity into the match at the stroke of halftime. He planted in a well-inch-perfect cross from Fakebba Jammeh in the 45+1.
The Falcons did not lift their feet off the gas as they restored their lead just 4 minutes into the second half. Bakary Touray makes it 3-2 with a thunderous shot that hits the crossbar before landing into the net.
Lamin Sanneh, the coach of Falcons who was an animated figure throughout the match, celebrating every goal passionately, told The Alkamba Times Sports that the win over Real De Banjul means a lot to him.
“This is a special win for me. There were people at Real De Banjul camp who were provoking me. That’s why I told the players they can provoke me outside but let’s provoke them in 90 minutes, and I think this victory signals a big thing for this football club.” Lamin said.
Despite having a 5 points lead over second place Wallidan and a 6 points gap between Falcons and Real De Banjul, Lamin Sanneh gives his boys a 30% chance of winning the league.
