A casual birthday wish from rising Gambian singer and TikTok star Isha Milky has turned into a nationwide show of support after fans at home and in the diaspora raised more than D230,000 to buy her a car.
The young artist from Soma, known for catchy tracks and a following said to exceed 1.6 million on TikTok, said she wanted a vehicle during her birthday celebrations. The remark quickly became a crowdfunding drive. Supporters sent money through Wave, PayPal, bank transfers, and GTBank.
Four TikTok live streams alone brought in D200,000 on Wave. Donations kept arriving after payment limits were hit, pushing the total past D230,000. Contributors ranged from small gifts to larger sums, and organizers described the effort as a show of unity around a young creator who has built a loyal audience through music and social media.
Visibly moved, Isha Milky issued a public statement thanking supporters. “I’m honestly overwhelmed… and deeply grateful, Gambia,” she said. “What started as a simple birthday wish, ‘I want a car,’ has turned into something I will never forget for the rest of my life. This is not just money… this is love, unity, and pure support. Some of you gave big, some gave small, but every single contribution means everything to me. I came with a dream… and you all are turning it into reality. May God bless each and every one of you, multiply your kindness, and answer your own prayers the same way you’re answering mine.”
Fans have also praised her recent Quranic recitations during Ramadan and her mix of entertainment with cultural and spiritual content. Congratulations have poured in online, with many calling the gift well deserved.
The campaign underscores Isha Milky’s growing influence as both an artist and content creator, and how a simple wish shared with her audience produced an unusual result.
