In a captivating display of talent and resilience, Galaxy 11 claimed the championship title in the Wellingara Sports Committee Official Knockout Final with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over SB’s FC.
The pulsating match, played in front of an energetic and vocal crowd, showcased the competitive spirit of both sides. Galaxy 11 broke the deadlock shortly after halftime, with Cherno Bah slotting home in the 47th minute. Their lead was extended just six minutes later when Madou Saidy fired in a second, putting the debutants in a strong position.
SB’s FC responded with determination, pulling one back through Abdou Wahab Samateh in the 67th minute. However, their momentum was halted almost immediately as an unfortunate own goal in the 68th minute restored Galaxy 11’s two-goal cushion.
Despite a late push and a second goal that added to the drama, SB’s FC fell just short of a comeback, as Galaxy 11 held firm to seal a memorable victory.
Usman Saho, head coach of Galaxy 11, expressed immense pride in his players’ achievement.
“We fought hard, and this is a well-deserved tournament for us” Saho remarked. “It’s our first appearance, and the boys proved that age is just a number in modern football. We thank the community for their unwavering support and now shift focus to the upcoming qualifier round”
SB’s FC coach Modou Jaiteh, while disappointed with the result, remained optimistic.
“We’re disappointed to lose, but I’m proud of the fight our team showed. We made some mistakes, but this experience will make us stronger next season” he stated.
