With Feyenoord seeded in Pot One of the Champions League, five more Gambian internationals will be hoping to play in UEFA competition this season.
Champions League
James Gomez, who is yet to play for Sparta Prague, has seen his side paired with FC Copenhagen in the third round of the UEFA Champions League. The first tie is in Denmark on 8/8, while the return leg is on 15/8.
Europa League
Demboa Darboe and Alieu Fadera missed the chance to go to the next round of the Champions League qualifiers. Dembo played second fiddle when he replaced Vladislav in their match against Dinamo Zagreb, which they ended up losing 6-0 on aggregate. Dembo played in the first and second rounds, starting two and coming off the bench in two matches.
Dembo Darboe and FC Astana will face Noah Sonko’s Ludogrets, who lost to Olimpija following Gk Vidovsek’s 90+12 minutes penalty saved.
Alieu Fadera was introduced in the 69th minute as he saw his side Genk, crash out at the expense of Swiss side Servette via penalties after 120 minutes of action. Genk’s European journey continues as they take on Olympiacos Piraeus in the third round of the Europa League.
Gambian captain Omar Colley played his 15th European competition when Besiktas Jk beat FK Tiran 5-1 on aggregate. It was a wonderful night for Turkish clubs as they won on Thursday night.
Besiktas JK will play against Azerbaijan Neftçi in the third round of the Europa Conference league. The tie is on the 10/8, while the return leg is on the 17/8.
Sainey Sanyang’s European debut saw him play 59 minutes for the Reds. CSKA Sofia lost the double leg by 6-0 on aggregate against Sepsi. Sanyang maintained his spot in the starting XI after only playing 14 minutes of action in the First League.
Injured duo Bubacarr Trawally and Alfusainey Jatta saw their side Hammarby and RFS crash out on Thursday against Twente and Sabah.
