Ablie Gassama is a cult figure in CasaSports, playing an instrumental role as the Essamays try to defend their league title.

Against Pikine, Gassama equaled Pa Omar Jobe’s national goal-scoring record in the Ligue 1 set in 2019, where the former Ndiambour striker scooped the Golden Boot title with 12 goals.

Gassama currently has 12 goals and is one shy of last season’s winners, Bouly Junior Sambou Jaraaf and Ngagne Fall of GenerationFoot, who all hit 13

Gassama, who scored a hat trick against CNEPS, also doubled as the first player this season to achieve that record and has jumped to second place in Gambian foreign-based players leading goal scorers.

The former Latrikunda talisman has now banged in 32 goals in all competitions for CasaSports.

Gassama, named in the Senegal team of the week on five occasions, spoke to Alkamba Sports about his goal-scoring spree, the title race, and the love of CasaSports fans.

“This momentum had been the target at the back of my mind. I believe I can achieve it, and I deserve it. I am always working on it; more to come.” He stressed

CasaSports are five points behind GenerationFoot and Diambars. However, Gassama believes in the turn of fortune as he is sure they can overtake the leaders.

“Teams are ready; it’s so difficult. Every match is a final. Teams are refusing to give in, just like they did last season. It’s hard, but we will do our best. We are hanging. GenerationFoot, Diambars Fc, and Guediawaye FC haven’t won the league for a long that’s why they are ready.”

Gassama has scored against five teams so far this season and hopes to break the deadlock against Guediawaye this weekend.

Gassama’s 12 goals came against Goree x2, Teungueth FC x2, Sonacos x2, CNEPS 3, and one each vs. Pikinie, Linguere, and Diambar.

” I am working on the golden boot; I believed I could score more when I scored one. I was eyeing two goals.”

Gasama is the engine of CasaSports, as he carries the team, and AllezCasa feels the love.

“Fans are there for the players; they will push you once you are in a great moment. Everybody appreciates you, making you push more; you feel comfortable,” He added.
