After years of unwavering dedication, strategic investment, and quiet resilience, Koita’s FC has written a new chapter in Gambian women’s football. On Saturday, the club secured its maiden FF League championship with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over rivals Red Scorpions at the Bakau Football Park. A solitary strike from Ramatoulie Jegne proved decisive, sparking jubilant scenes as the team etched its name into the history books.

The triumph marks a remarkable ascent for Koita’s FC. Once regional contenders, the club has transformed into national champions through consistent performances, tactical discipline, and a clear long-term vision. This season’s campaign exemplified the qualities that define champions: resilience under pressure, collective belief, and an ability to rise above formidable competition.

In a phone interview from his base in Switzerland, the Kudang Native and club Chief Executive Officer Lamin Koita reflected on the emotional significance of the moment. “This is a very special moment for me, for the club, and for everyone who has been part of this journey,” he said. “Winning our first-ever FF League title is the reward for years of hard work, sacrifice, and belief. It shows that when you have a clear vision, stay committed, and work together as one family, success will come.”

For the club’s leadership, the title transcends mere silverware. It validates substantial investments in players, coaching staff, and youth development programs aimed at empowering women in a sport traditionally dominated by men in The Gambia. Despite facing familiar hurdles—limited resources, financial constraints, and logistical challenges common to local teams—Koita’s FC maintained focus throughout a demanding season.

“We always believed that one day we could become champions,” Koita added. “It wasn’t something we expected to happen overnight, but it was always part of our long-term vision. The journey wasn’t easy. We faced challenges such as limited resources and financial constraints… However, we never allowed those challenges to stop us.”

The victory also delivers a timely boost to women’s football across the country. It demonstrates that with proper planning, commitment, and targeted support, Gambian clubs can nurture homegrown talent capable of competing at the highest domestic level. Supporters, families, sponsors, and backroom staff all played vital roles, turning individual efforts into collective success.

“This success is the result of everyone pulling in the same direction with one common goal,” Koita emphasized.

With the title secured, attention now turns to the future. Club officials plan to defend their crown while intensifying youth development initiatives and professional standards. “Winning the league is a great achievement, but we don’t want to stop here,” Koita stated. “Our goal is to continue improving every season. We will keep investing in youth development, improve our coaching standards, strengthen the squad, and continue building a professional environment where players can develop.”

Koita also issued an inspiring message to young female footballers nationwide: stay disciplined, remain patient, embrace learning, and view obstacles as motivation. “Women’s football in The Gambia is growing, and there are more opportunities than ever before. If you stay focused and keep believing in yourself, you can achieve great things. We hope our success inspires many more young girls to chase their dreams with confidence.”

As celebrations reverberate across the country, Koita’s FC’s landmark win stands as powerful proof that perseverance and vision can elevate women’s football. The club’s story offers hope and a blueprint for others, promising a brighter, more competitive future for the sport in The Gambia.
