Incumbent President Lamin Kaba Bajo has won reelection in the Gambia Football Federation elections for the third term after defeating rival candidate Sadibou Kamaso of Team Restore Confidence by 51 votes to 25.
Other executive positions went unopposed after Team Restore Members declined to contest those positions.
Speaking to the press, President-elect Lamin Kaba Bajo said he wasn’t surprised by the victory. He told journalists his track records and success were vital factors stakeholders decided to vote for him.
I am delighted, he said,’ the stakeholders have decided for stability and continuity.’
Mr. Bajo said his main objective is to see the senior scorpions qualify for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations and continue the infrastructural project his administration started during their previous term.
In a statement conceding defeat, Bajo’s opponent, Sadibou Kamaso, said:
” We have come a long way from the date we made a declaration to contest for the GFF leadership to date. This journey has been very fulfilling and successful and has given us the opportunity to change the dynamics of Gambian Football for good. The stakeholders have spoken, and their voices should be respected irrespective of the circumstances in which they were made to speak.”
” We have all witnessed the numerous inducement and coercion tactics employed by the GFF Executive, but again the stakeholders had a choice to choose who to vote for without being allowed to be coerced or forced to. Blocking me from entering the Extraordinary congress by the Chairman of the electoral committee who has no jurisdiction over that is one of the many tactics employed to butcher our constitution,” He said in a statement.
President Elect Bajo team include, Mr. Bakary Jammeh as vice President, Ebou Faye second Vice President, Numukunda Kanyi – third Vice President, Imaila S . Ceesay, John Frank Mendy, Maimuna Kanteh -Arret Njie Jah as Executive Committee MemberS.
