At least 36 households were affected by a storm in Kaur, which collapsed buildings and fences, and left several blocked roads within the community.

Sources told TAT that many households were displaced following strong winds and torrential rains early last Saturday morning and are staying with neighbors and other family members.

Bamba Salimang Janneh, a victim whose house was flattened by the storm, said it came at night when many families were asleep.

Alanso Keita of Kaur Janneh Kunda, a youth leader, also said the storm caused many collapsed buildings and fences and fallen many big trees that blocked roads.

He added that a family escaped unhurt after their house collapsed; they were taken to the community health center for a check-up and then discharged.

Sanna Dahaba, the Executive Director of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), confirmed a storm in Kaur in CRR North on 7 and 8 October, and 36 households were affected.

He added six trees fell on houses and fences and that three injured persons were taken to hospital for treatment and then discharged.

Dahaba described the storm in Kaur as one of the most serious reported in the rural Gambia this year and has appealed for support to the victims.
