Ushering in the celebratory atmosphere of Eid-ul-Fitr after the sacred period of Ramadan, Muslim communities across the Gambia enthusiastically indulged in jubilant festivities while clad in resplendent outfits carefully selected for the special Eid occasion.
As people celebrated Eid, sincere greetings and warm messages of ‘Eid Mubarak’ were shared between loved ones, reflecting the festive atmosphere of this special day that marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting for Muslims across the globe.
Musa Darboe shared his perspective on this special day, urging authorities to address the affordability of essential commodities in The Gambia.
“Eid is once a year, and what we eat and wear on this day is important. Things should be made easier during this period, but unfortunately, that’s not the case in The Gambia. Everything, from feeding to transportation, is difficult, and unemployment remains a significant challenge.”
Lamin Drammeh conveyed a simple yet heartfelt Eid message to The Alkamba Times, wishing everyone a blissful Eid. “May all our prayers and fastings be accepted.”
Amie Njie expressed concerns about security during this festive period, calling on security personnel to conduct constant patrols for safety purposes.
“Children are out and about everywhere on this day, and the security situation in our country is uncertain. Let there be increased security presence so that we can fully enjoy our festivities.”
During the Eid prayers at Masjid Alhagie Basirou Jawara in Bakau Newtown, Imam Fakebba Ceesay delivered a sermon emphasizing unity, love, and respect among Muslims. He encouraged everyone to maintain their commitment to faith and the worship of Allah beyond Ramadan.
The Gambian Muslim community came together to mark Eid-ul-Fitr with prayer services that emphasized the values of compassion, understanding, and resilience.
