In a thrilling opening match of the CAF Women’s Champions League 2025 WAFU A, USFAS Bamako from Mali handed the defending champions Aigles de Medina a 2-0 defeat at Stade Me Abdoulaye WADE de Diaminiadio.

Oumou Traore’s stunning header in the 59th minute broke the deadlock, and Safiatou Keita sealed the win with a second goal in the 75th minute.

Despite a spirited effort from Aigles de Medina, they couldn’t capitalize on their chances to score. Coach Soukeye Cisse attributed the loss to lack of concentration and precipitation after being attacked early in the game. She also cited physical impact and lack of experience as contributing factors.

“We played against a very intelligent and quick Malian team,” Cisse said. “But I’m confident that we’ll recover and come back stronger. Our young players have the mental strength to bounce back.”

USFAS Bamako’s coach, Amadou Cisse, praised his team’s performance in the second half, where they capitalized on Aigles de Medina’s mistakes. “The key to the match was our ability to stay focused and take advantage of our opponents’ errors,” he said. “We’ll analyze our next opponents and correct our mistakes to go as far as possible in the tournament and win the trophy.”

With this impressive win, USFAS Bamako sets the tone for the competition, while Aigles de Medina will look to regroup and bounce back in their next match. The stage is set for an exciting tournament, and fans can’t wait to see what’s in store.
